Flevoland is often considered a green and watery recreational area, with the space and tranquillity that is lacking in the Randstad urban conglomeration of Western Holland. This is fact. Nevertheless, Flevoland is also a model of modern architecture and urban development to which many architects have contributed. In addition to the most striking buildings, particularly in Almere and Lelystad, there are also examples of Land Art, in which the landscape forms both the subject and the medium of the artworks . Five of a total of seven such works of art in the Netherlands are located in Flevoland!
